This last week Twitter announced that in the next few months it will be shutting its service vine down. This has come due to the fact that twitter has been struggling to be profitable in the last couple of years. Vine started early of 2013 as a video social media app that was limited to 6 second videos and thats it. It gained success very quickly with the use of vine magic tricks and the ability to make stop and go videos with ease unlike ever before. A new category of internet celebrity was born, known as the “Vine star”. These vine stars started off as nothing more than a popular vine star within the realm of vine. This soon changed however due to the increase of the interweaving of the social media world that was taking place. Tumblr, Facebook, Vine and Twitter all at once seemed Synonymous and this caused the internet stardom of before to change and become a universal internet stardom. The question as to where it all went down can be answered with a quote from the new york times. “Here’s what Mike Isaac, a tech reporter who covers Twitter for The Times, said Thursday about the view inside the company: “Vine never recovered from Instagram’s video launch a few years back. That threat of stealing users and market share was real, and it worked.”In May, the media website Digiday reported that many of Vine’s biggest stars had jumped ship, leaving for more profitable pastures, like YouTube and Facebook.” <http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/28/technology/vine-is-closing-down-and-the-internet-cant-stand-it.html> This bounce back is one that vine never was able to do and therefore the powerful steam engine is slowing to a halt. However unlike previous shutdowns Twitter is doing something different. “Twitter will be keeping Vine’s website up indefinitely. “We think it’s important to still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made,” the company said.” <http://www.businessinsider.com/twitter-shutting-vine-down-2016-10> This shows that they will always pay homage to what once was and that will be a bitter sweet feeling for years to come.
